Your health data belongs to you. Full stop.

Last updated: March 26, 2026

TL;DR β€” The Short Version

  • βœ“All your health data stays on your device β€” we don't have access to it
  • βœ“We never sell your data β€” to anyone, ever
  • βœ“AI uses your data for context β€” Don Vicente sees recent glucose, meals, etc. to give personalized advice
  • βœ“Export your data anytime β€” it's yours, take it with you
  • βœ“Works offline β€” no internet required for core features

1. Data Storage

Local-First Architecture: All your health data (glucose readings, meals, workouts, sleep, etc.) stays on your device. We do not have access to this data.

AI Conversations: When you chat with Don Vicente, your messages plus relevant context (recent glucose readings, meals, workouts, sleep) are transmitted to Moonshot AI for processing. This context helps Don Vicente give personalized advice. The AI learns your patterns over time to provide better coaching. This is how modern AI assistants work β€” context enables personalization.

2. What We Collect

We DO NOT collect:

  • β€’ Your glucose readings
  • β€’ Your meal logs or insulin doses
  • β€’ Your workout data
  • β€’ Your sleep or health metrics
  • β€’ Your name or personal identifiers (unless you join the waitlist)

We DO collect (only with your consent):

  • β€’ Email address β€” if you join our waitlist (stored securely, never shared)
  • β€’ Anonymous crash reports β€” to improve app stability (optional)
  • β€’ Usage analytics β€” anonymized, aggregated stats about feature usage (optional)

3. What Data Goes to Don Vicente (AI)

When you chat with Don Vicente, the app includes recent context to help the AI understand your situation. This typically includes:

  • β€’ Your message (what you typed)
  • β€’ Recent glucose readings (last 6-12 hours)
  • β€’ Recent meals logged (last 12-24 hours)
  • β€’ Recent insulin doses (active insulin calculations)
  • β€’ Recent workouts (last 24 hours)
  • β€’ Sleep data (last night)
  • β€’ Patterns the AI has learned about you (your typical responses, timing, etc.)

Why this matters: This context is what makes Don Vicente actually helpful. Without it, the AI would just give generic advice. With it, Don Vicente can say things like "Your glucose dropped after yesterday's pasta β€” try pre-bolusing 15 minutes earlier today."

This data is processed by Moonshot AI and is subject to their privacy policy. Conversations are used to improve the AI model (anonymized and aggregated).

4. Third-Party Services

We integrate with the following services:

Moonshot AI (Kimi)

Powers Don Vicente's conversational AI. Only your chat messages are sent for processing. No health data is shared unless you explicitly include it in a message.

LibreView / LibreLinkUp

Official Abbott API for Libre 3 CGM integration. Data flows directly from Abbott to your device. We are never in the middle.

Apple HealthKit

On-device integration with Apple's health platform. Data never leaves your device or Apple's ecosystem.

5. Your Rights

  • Right to Access: Export all your data anytime in JSON format
  • Right to Delete: Clear all app data from your device settings
  • Right to Opt Out: Disable analytics and crash reporting in app settings
  • Right to Control AI: You choose whether to use Don Vicente. Without AI, Open-D works as a standard diabetes tracker with local data only.

6. Security

β€’ All local data is stored with iOS-level encryption

β€’ Optional sync uses end-to-end encryption

β€’ No plaintext health data ever transmitted to our servers

β€’ Regular security audits of dependencies

7. Children's Privacy

Open-D is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

9. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please reach out through our waitlist form on the homepage. We read every message.
